Comparison

An open-source alternative to Tricount and Splitwise

Tricount and Splitwise split expenses well. Allotwe covers the same need for a household, with open code, the option to host your own copy and a view of the month's income. Here is what differs, plainly.

When Allotwe fits better

You share a home and want a steady view of the month: rent and bills come back already split, each person has a balance, and income shows what is left to spend. You care where your data lives: the code is public (AGPL-3.0), the database is hosted in the European Union, and you can run your own copy with Docker. You want to try right now: a household starts without an account, and the others join through a link.

When Tricount or Splitwise fit better

A trip with friends, a group gift, a one-off event: their native mobile apps and multi-currency support are built for that. Allotwe is a web app made for a household that lasts, in euros. It opens on a phone, but there is no app to install from the stores.

What Allotwe does not do

It does not move money and does not connect to your bank. It does not read receipts. It handles one currency, the euro. It is a clear record of who paid what, and of what is left to settle.

Try it with a real month

Create a household, enter the rent and two bills. The balance shows up right away.
